Jean Mallard was born in Paris in 1997. Admirer of Moebius’s comics and the films of Miyazaki, he joined Paris’s l’École des Arts Décoratifs in 2015 to learn comic illustration, animation, screen printing and engraving. His preferred mediums are watercolours and gouache paint which he uses to create boundless worlds. Jean is consistently drawing or painting, his creative energy flowing like a river, depicting lively, humorous, poetic and generous images. His universe is inspired by popular Russian painters, Indian miniatures, Japanese prints and Douanier Rousseau. His work has been selected for Bologne’s Illustration Fair in 2018 and 2020 and Angoulême Festival in 2019. He received the Grand Award in Boulogne in 2018.
In 2019, Jean moved to Naples and the following year presented his first solo exhibitions “Via Miracoli” at La SLOW Galerie before heading to Sicily where he created work for his second exhibition “L’heure bleue” (“Blue Hour”) which was met with great success in 2022. He then ran many exhibitions in France (including the Mucem museum in Marseille), Belgium and Italy, and worked for prestigious cultural organizations or beautiful brands such L’Opéra de Dijon, Terre de Paroles Festival, Les Arts de la Table, La Mouche Theater, Cine Juior Festival, etc…
