Angela McKay is an illustrator, pattern creator and painter. Her work is often inspired by her travels, the natural world, vegetal forms and representations of femininity. She majorly works manually, creating a free and distinct line. From her initial sketches emerge saturated and detailed paintings created with gouache paint, coloured pencils and watercolours. She enjoys capturing her travels and reflections by painting in her small sketchbooks, which often act as research for future creations.

Her illustrations have been commissioned by a wide variety of clients, from Candlewick Press to Startbucks. Angela also painted a mural for JW MARRIOT Hotel in Los Angeles and has collaborated with fashion brands such as H&M and Madewell. Her work has also been featured in the journals Travel & Leisure Magazine, ID Magazine and Flow Magazine. She spent a significant portion of her professional career as an artist in Brooklyn but recently returned to Australia’s west coast to spend her free time painting for the most exigeant of collaborators: her two-year-old child.
