Clémence Trossevin moved to Paris in 2011 to study History of Art and Archeology at L’École du Louvre and as she specialised in Eastern Asian art, she developed a fondness for the patterns that ornate Chinese ceramics and textiles. Their display of craftsmanship, colours, shapes, minimalism, or on the contrary the accumulation of multiple forms and images have informed her creative approach.
Clémence works with gouache paint and digitally, her graceful technique, her exquisite colour palettes and her playful use of light and shadows make her work truly disctinctive. Her creative influences sit between Hergé’s clear line-work and flattened colours and the early 20th Century Japanese movement Shin-Hanga known for its perfectly balanced use of lines and colours and its precision.
Clémence draws her inspirations from memories, evocative smells, sensations, nature and narrative observations, forming captured vignettes of existences.
“I think painting enables me to access joyful moments. While thinking about composition, researching colours and through the act of painting itself, I get to relive a fragment of the moment I’m depicting.”
